Judges 2024

The 2024 the Write to End Violence Against Women Awards will feature an esteemed panel of expert judges who will evaluate submissions across three categories: News, Feature, and Opinion and Comment.

News

Rosemary Douce, Head of Standards & Regulation, IPSO

Rosemary Douce is Head of Standards & Regulation at IPSO. She joined IPSO in 2018 as a Standards Officer, taking responsibility for monitoring complaints, writing guidance for journalists and members of the public, and delivering training. Prior to joining IPSO, she produced live and pre-recorded subtitles for BBC and Channel 4 television programmes, and worked as a production assistant for programmes presented in British Sign Language. She has a degree in English with Media Studies.

Opinion and Comment 

Dr Natasha Hirst, the President of the National Union of Journalists

Natasha is a freelance photojournalist and a survivor of domestic abuse.

Lexie Kirkconnell-Kawana, Chief Executive Officer at IMPRESS 

Lexieis a New Zealand qualified barrister and solicitor who has worked in all forms of media regulation. She has worked at the Advertising Standards Authority in the investigations team and at the New Zealand Office of Film and Literature Classification, an independent state media regulator, in a semi-judicial capacity, and where she was also the research lead on the ‘young New Zealanders viewing sexual violence’ project. She is currently CEO at IMPRESS: the Royal Charter approved self-regulatory body for the press in the UK, where she manages all aspects of the regulatory services IMPRESS provides to its publisher members and the public. The IMPRESS Standards Code addresses all aspects of news-gathering and publishing, including accuracy, non-discrimination and reporting on justice.

This diverse panel of judges will carefully review all submissions to select the most impactful, innovative, and ethically-reported stories that further the mission of ending violence against women. The winners will be announced at an online ceremony on 28th November 2024. Register here.
