Statement on Raith Rovers FC and McDermid Ladies - 4/2/2022

McDermid Ladies V Livingston Dev. Sunday 6th February. Kick off 2pm. Windmill Community Campus, Kirkcaldy #ZeroTolerance

In signing a man found by a senior judge to be a rapist, Raith Rovers FC showed they valued scoring goals and one man’s career over women. We echo our First Minister in saying that Raith Rovers’ actions revealed how far we are from achieving our vison of a Scotland free from violence against women and girls. A vision possible through gender equality.

It heartened us to hear many voices speaking out against the club’s actions. Supporters of Raith Rovers made the tough decision to withdraw their support for their club and professionals resigned, including the captain of Raith Rovers Women’s team.

It made a difference. Through speaking up and taking action, Scots taught Raith Rovers that violence against women and girls is not acceptable.

We’re proud to have our logo on the newly named McDermid Ladies strips and join the many voices saying: we have zero tolerance of violence against women and girls.
