SWC Young Women’s Network: Young Woman’s Achievement Award Nominations Now Open

The SWC has been working with young women to ensure their voices are heard at local and national level on issues which are important to them. The SWC Young Women’s Network (YWN) was established to provide young women with a method of working together to encourage change. By using social media, on-line blogs and a quarterly enews bulletin, the YWN has a network of individuals and organisations from throughout Scotland involved in activities and discussions.

At the YWN Conference, ‘A False Sense of Perfection’, held in Glasgow on 19th October 2013, Agnes Tolmie, SWC Chair, launched the 2nd SWC Young Woman’s Achievement Award. This award will be given to a young woman who is inspirational, supportive of others or overcome adversity.

Young women make a great contribution to communities, workplaces and society. It is important that this is recognised and valued. Positive role models rather than negative press will promote confidence and self-belief in young women today.

Last year’s winner is an active volunteer with the SWC and speaks with young women to raise awareness of the issues experienced by women in all aspects of life – eg employment, education, childcare, access to services.

If you know of a young woman who you believe would benefit from being nominated for this award, please complete the attached nomination form.

Nominations close on 31st March 2014
