Vacancy: Saheliya

Support Worker (Urdu/Punjabi) *Female

Hours: 7 -14 per week

Salary: £20,388 pro-rata (depending on experience)

Purpose of Job

The Support Worker will support service users to improve their well-being and quality of life by helping them to access the services they need and reach their full potential. She will carry out one-to-one work as well as group work with other Saheliya colleagues.

Saheliya was established by and for Black and Ethnic Minority (BME) women to support those living with, recovering from, or at risk of, mental well-being problems.  We do this through:

  • Therapeutic counselling; befriending; advocacy and practical support; group, and youth work; and complementary therapies.
  • Two-way referral systems with other agencies (e.g. Perinatal Units, Acute Psychiatric Units, Women’s Aid, social work, police, and legal services).
  • Working with policy makers to raise awareness of BME women’s specific, additional problems.
  • Raising awareness in BME communities of human rights and responsibilities.
  • Partnerships with other BME women’s organisations in Scotland
  • Skills-building, and employability activities in the Saheliya Learning Centre
