Submission Deadline Fast Approaching

The deadline is fast approaching for submissions to the Write to End Violence Against Women Awards. We are inviting submissions about gender based violence, and its root cause: gender inequality, which challenge a culture that accepts violence against women published between 01/09/13 and 01/09/14.

The media has a vital role in challenging a culture which supports violence, and many journalists and bloggers produce high quality work which confronts violence and gender inequality. We believe that their hard work deserves to be recognised, which is why we are pleased to present the second Write to End Violence Against Women Awards for excellence in journalism.

Following the success of last year’s inaugural Write to End Violence Against Women Awards, held at the Scottish Parliament, which recognises and rewards quality violence against women (VAW) reporting in Scotland, nominations are now being welcomed for 2014’s awards.

Wooden Spoon Award Posted to Sun Editor David Dinsmore

Today we posted the dubious wooden spoon award to Sun editor David Dinsmore, with a letter detailing why their front page was chosen as the worst article.

The Write to End Violence Against Women Awards took place last night at the Scottish Parliament. We had an absolutely brilliant night and want to thank everyone who came, nominated, helped and supported the event. Write Awards Shortlist Announced!

With the awards less than a week away we thought it was about time to let the world know who has been shortlisted for the award. There was a really high quality of writing on display and narrowing each category down to 5 was difficult.

Write Awards Ceremony Date Announced! 12th November 6-8pm Scottish Parliament.

The submissions have flooded in, the deadline has passed and the judges have the difficult task of selecting the best articles for each category. Nominees will appear on this site in the next couple of weeks, and the final winners will be announced at a special event at the Scottish Parliament on Tuesday the 12th of November from 6-8pm.
