ONE WEEK TO GO! WEDNESDAY’S FEATURED CATEGORY: WORST ARTICLE
Wednesday: Wooden Spoon
Unfortunately, irresponsible writing about Violence Against Women is still too often a feature of media reporting, with writers falling back on stereotypes, victim blaming and sensationalism. Therefore the awards include a Worst Article, or “Wooden Spoon” category.
Have you seen something in the press recently that has made your blood boil?
Be sure to let us know about any terrible or terrifying pieces published between 01/09/15 and 01/09/16 and enter them in the running for the 2016 Worst Article award.
It only takes five minutes to nominate a piece for our Worst Article award. To find out how, please visit the How to Enter Page.
In 2013, the inaugural “Worst Article” award actually went to a front cover– the notorious “3 Shots” Sun Cover was just too egregious to ignore. You can read the “winning” 2014 piece, “LIZ JONES: The answer to drunken letches? Sober women and sober clothes” — with a warning for extreme victim blaming — here.
The winners will be announced at the awards ceremony at the Scottish Parliament on 6 December 2016.
