One Week to Go! Monday's Featured Category: Best Article

This is the final week to nominate articles for the 2015 awards! Each day during ‎WritetoEndVAW‬ ‪#‎1Week2Go‬, we'll be featuring a different award category.

Monday: Best Article

We know that “straight news pieces” and “comment pieces” often have different styles and aims,so this year we split the Best Print Journalism Article category into two separate categories. These categories are open to journalists writing either print or online, in a Scottish publication or primarily reaching a Scottish audience.

The terms and conditions for the "Best Article" categories are:

Best Article – news
  • Author must have received financial C36A7052compensation for the piece.
  • Articles must be published, either in print or online, in a Scottish publication or primarily reaching a Scottish audience.
  • Article must be a “hard news” story, i.e. a piece of reporting intended to objectively communicate the facts of the story.
  • Work may be published in any local or national Scottish publication.
Best Article – comment & features
  • Author must have received financial compensation for the piece
  • Articles must be published, either in print or online, in a Scottish publication or primarily reaching a Scottish audience.
  • Article can be a comment, opinion or a more lengthy feature piece, i.e. a piece of writing intended to provide more analysis and context than a straightforward news piece.
  • Work may be published in any local or national Scottish publication.

It only takes five minutes to nominate yours or another's writing. To find out how, please visit the How to Enter Page.

To find out more about the kind of high calibre work that we are looking to recognise, have a read of our excellent Best Article winners from 2013 (Anni Donaldson) and 2014 (Nancy Lombard).

The winners will be announced at the awards ceremony at the Scottish Parliament on 10 December 2015.

Logo with Carolyn Leckie Quote: “This award is a long overdue antidote to the status quo of lazy stereotypes and misunderstanding of violence against women, where usually women are blamed and perpetrators are invisible. “This will shine a light on the insidious messages that usually pervade the media, and highlight the informed and more sophisticated contributions.”
