Women’s Support Worker Post

We have secured funding from the Third Sector Early Intervention fund for a Women’s Support worker post:

Women’s Support Worker (32 hours per week) – Somali / Arabic (Glasgow and / or Edinburgh)

Saheliya was established by and for Black and Ethnic Minority (BME) women to support BME women living with, surviving, or at risk of, mental well-being problems resulting from racism and other discrimination and oppressive cultural practises.

The aim of the post is to provide well-being and human rights support to women in specific BME communities in order to improve:

  • access to health and other appropriate services;
  • education and employment;
  • integration and citizenship.

As a women’s organisation, Saheliya is committed to supporting family-friendly working. Applications are welcomed for working part-time, and / or flexible hours – some limited working during school holidays (with a maximum of 32 hours per week).

The post is funded initially until end March 2015

Salary will be up to £20,338 pro rata, and will be dependent on experience.

(Saheliya has in-house childcare for children from six weeks to seven years.)

We aim to develop our clients' self-esteem and confidence and reduce barriers such as isolation and depression, by using a holistic range of services including counselling, practical support and advocacy, befriending, complementary therapies, outreach, group work and Young Saheliya. Our services are free and confidential. Childcare for under-sevens is available on request.
