Part Time Programme Officer

18 hours per week


The position is initially for a 6 month fixed term contract, with potential for extension

Job Description

The Programme Officer will be responsible for strategic and operational coordination of all DARF activities. S/he will be responsible for developing the organisation both internally and externally through the generation of increased income in accordance with the 2012/2013 operational plan and fundraising strategy. He/she will be responsible for the implementation of an agreed 2013 fundraising strategy and for the effective securing of grants, development and conversion of pilot projects to mainstream income-generating services.

S/he will also be required to support DARF training sessions, recruit and support volunteers from BME communities, and implement youth activity programs through the development of new and existing DARF services.

The strategic role will be to:

  • Review and organise the narrative and financial records of the organisation.
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with current partners and funders.
  • Liaise with the Africa coordinator to develop a fundraising strategy to support community based anti FGM and child marriage actions in Africa.
  • Develop and submit funding proposals.
  • Work with the team responsible for submitting funding applications to develop proposals

The operational role includes responsibility for:

  • Recruit and manage volunteers to encourage a wider participation of women and girls from FGM practising communities and BME communities in general
  • Galvanising the interest of members and volunteers to better utilise DARFs social capital.
  • Organising regular fund and awareness raising activities.
  • Managing day to day finances, record keeping and reporting.
  • Providing support to the Board in complying with their governance duties.
  • Monitor and evaluate results, procedures, projects and activities and provide the information in an accurate and timely manner to the Coordinator and Chairperson.
  • Participate in regular supervision meetings to discuss and resolve issues, set targets and generally provide an update on the progress of work.
  • Any other reasonable compatible duties.

Personal Specification


  • Degree in social sciences or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in working with FGM practising communities in UK.
  • Minimum of 3 years of successful experience in fundraising, administration, planning, implementation and monitoring.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of gender and FGM issues
  • Excellent interpersonal skills (e.g., active listening, cultural competence, responsiveness)
  • Event management skills
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Basic finance administration and fundraising knowledge
  • Ability to balance completion of designated projects, both short and long term, with the execution of routine duties.
  • Ability to meet short deadlines and willingness to work additional hours during deadline periods.
  • Demonstrates computer competence including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.

Written and oral English fluency required
