Women don’t need viral social experiments to validate what we already know

Women don’t need viral social experiments to validate what we already know

"Using a constructed, male-focused experiment to shed light on a problem woman have been shouting about forever is more than just lazy, though - it’s ultimately part of the problem."  Eve provides some important insights about the 'social experiment' phenomenon.

Have yourself a gender equal Christmas

Have yourself a gender equal Christmas

For many caregivers, the run up to Christmas is a time where it can feel like there is endless, inescapable marketing and advertising for children’s toys, media, and games - all vying to make it onto Santa’s list and many of which will be marketed in a highly gender specific and unhelpful manner. So what can you do this Christmas to minimise the effects of gender stereotyping?

Scottish social attitudes and addressing VAW at the source

Influences, pressures and experiences of young women – SWC Conference

Influences, pressures and experiences of young women – SWC Conference

Our new board member, Lisa Clark, attended the SWC 'Your choice, your future' conference earlier this month. The purpose of the conference was hear the views of young women on employment, participation, and discrimination. Many of the issues raised are very close to our heart - and our work - at  Zero Tolerance. Read Lisa's blog to find out more about the event and how you can get involved in the fight to end sexism and violence against women.

No Amnesty Day of Global Action

No Amnesty Day of Global Action

Today, Zero Tolerance is supporting the “No Amnesty Day of Global Action”. We believe that Amnesty International has got it wrong on prostitution by supporting full decriminalisation of the sex trade. We hope that the current debate will enable a conversation about a new approach in Scotland, that starts from questioning why men buy sex.

Prostitution law reform - what about the men?

Prostitution law reform - what about the men?

The debate around prostitution too often makes men who have power, privilege and free choices invisible, whilst pitting women against each other, creating an undue focus on how much individual women ‘chose’ to be involved. But prostitution is not individual – it is structural.  If the current debate achieves anything, it ought to bring the men who buy sex out of the shadows and ask why they think it is acceptable.

New term: time for MSPs to get to work

New term: time for MSPs to get to work

It’s the first week of a new parliamentary term in Scotland. The Scottish Parliament reconvened on 1 September after the summer recess. Violence against women is seldom far from the order of business in Scotland’s law-making chamber, and this session is no exception. We hope that MSPs have sharpened their pencils. . .
